Places To Serve

We believe we are saved to serve. We believe that God gives everyone abilities, experiences and gifts that can be used to help others. We hope you can get plugged in somewhere in the church or ourside where you can serve with joy.

Music

Praise Band

We exist to give opportunity for those creative types to express their passion and artistry through worship. The people who make up CBG Praise Band see themselves as leaders who offer their gifts to God as they lead the congregation in worship of our Creator.

Instrument positions include: Drums, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar and Keyboards. Vocalists are also welcome to audition. Contact the Contemporary Worship Leader to serve.

Chancel Choir

If you love to praise God through singing hymns and anthems, join our Chancel Choir! This team has existed since the church was founded in the 1800’s. What an honor to continue this amazing legacy! The choir leads the Traditional Service each Sunday morning.

Rehearsal is Wedesday evening and you will make some amazing friends as you acquire new vocal skills and singing techniques. If you can’t commit to every week, consider joining the choir during cantata season just prior to Easter or Christmas. Contact the Chancel Choir Director to serve.

Outreach

Curt's Kitchen

Volunteers prepare a hot meal for 250 people every Wednesday. Of the 250 about 105 are homebound and 100 to 145 are served at the old Grace Methodist Church on Pruitt Street. A full holiday meal is served at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We also have Santa Claus at Christmas with gifts for the children. The gifts for the children come from an Angel Tree at CBG.

You can volunteer by working in the kitchen, delivering to the homebound, donating desserts, bringing homemade desserts, and/or donating financially.

My Body and Soul

My Body and Soul helps hundreds of struggling families with free basic care and baby care items essential to everyday living but not covered by food stamps, such as diapers, toilet paper, soap, etc. We are so much more than a free goods outlet. We pray with each client who visits. Our goal is to be their answered prayer, and to provide them with dignity and hope for the future.

Volunteers sign up for a two-hour shift, as often or seldom as they want to work. Some volunteers work directly with clients, while others work “behind the scenes,” filling orders and stocking pantry shelves.

Relay for Life

Relay For Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society that is held yearly all around the world. This one night event takes all year to plan and organize. RFL is a celebration of the Survivors, the Fighters and those we have lost. It takes many volunteers and lots of dedication to keep surpassing our goals in an effort to end Cancer.

There are so many opportunities to be involved. You can be a part of the camp team at the event, raise donation dollars, sell t-shirts for supporters and sell luminaries. We encourage our survivors to sign up and participate in the Survivor lap.

Women

Nativity Figurine Ministry

What church at Christmas time gives each child a beautiful nativity figurine to have forever? Cedar Bayou Grace! United Methodist Women of this church started this program in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s.

Creating the figurines is a multi-step process: pouring the liquid clay into the mold, firing, painting the figurine, and then varnishing. It takes time and volunteers! The Committee meets in the kitchen of the old parsonage for cleaning and painting. Pouring is done during the day.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawls are given to members of our church family going through a crisis (health, grief, etc.) in their life. Started in 2009 by Jan Martin buying the yarn, members today just bring their knitting needles or crochet hooks (size J or larger). Anyone is welcome, and the group is eager to teach crocheting or knitting to anyone interested. As shawls are being made, prayers are said for the one who receives the shawl or lap blanket. May it fill them with the love of God and give them hope for better days!

Prayer Ministry

This ministry began in 1997, with Rev. Dan Miller, Virginia Miller, Gayle Standard, and Debbie Trant. The purpose is to contact members or anyone that needs prayer and let them know our group and church are praying for them every day.

We write personal notes or Bible scriptures to God in the name of Jesus Christ. This ministry has grown to 33 Prayer Warriors writing cards every month. Those of us who can, meet in the chapel for prayer and add any new names given to us. We invite anyone who has an interest to join our group or use the list to pray at home.

Office

Office Angels

The group Office Angels is being formed in the church office to assist the different ministry areas of the church. Typical duties would include folding and stuffing the weekly bulletins, preparing the monthly newsletter and other church wide mail-outs, and answering phones. We will also be helping the pastors and ministry leaders with various projects and anticipate that additional opportunities will arise with the move to the new building.
